Local Cycling Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP)

North Yorkshire Council is paving the way for a greener and healthier future with the development of a Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) for the Thirsk area, including South Kilvington.

A government strategy was set by the Department for Transport in 2021 which outlined the government's ambition to make walking and cycling the natural choice for shorter journeys. The strategy aims for half of all journeys in towns or cities to be walked or cycled by 2030.

A consultation exercise is scheduled for June to engage stakeholders in the Thirsk area.

This plan will enable North Yorkshire to apply for additional central government funding, which is crucial for its implementation. With detailed network plans and a prioritised programme of infrastructure improvements, North Yorkshire Council will be well-prepared to bid for this funding.
